we love we love you so. I have returned to the Land of Enchantment, incredible vistas, watermelon mountains, dramatic clouds, stunning summer thunderstorms, and lingering sunsets that get better by the second. August in Albuquerque has been good to me; I have even higher hopes for September. Here are some recent shots from my front yard:

more salsa than fits in the frame
On my first day back in New Mexico a few weeks ago, I went grocery shopping. I had forgotten that in Albuquerque, the stores have entire aisles devoted to salsa and green/red chile sauces. I was so tickled that I took a picture (yes, I carry my camera around in my purse for such moments). ¡Buen Provecho!

River of No Return.
some reasons why Idaho is one of the greatest states in the Union:
half of the fam-bam enjoying the river bank.
So we took the long way home on this road, called the French Grade. It was built in the 1930s by the CCC and is a series of switchbacks ascending out of the Salmon river valley. Lots of hairpin turns like this one:
And then a DAY after watching "Into the Wild" we happen upon an abandoned bus. Just a little too coincidental. I'm glad we weren't in Alaska (although I still really wanna go someday).

Kulikayo: welcome back...to Oxford!
(from 6.20ish.08)
Oh, I've ganda Uganda and seven weeks later, I’m back in Oxford! And it feels strangely familiar, even though I’ve only ever spent three days here. Oxford has become a home away from home of sorts. And I’m lucky to get to see so much of it—Jooj has taken me around so many colleges, which are stunningly beautiful (I'm painfully jealous of those who get to live here... I wonder how one becomes a Rhodes scholar?). I can't think of any setting more opposite from Mukono, Uganda than Oxford, England, and I find myself stopping mid-step and groaning at its gorgeousness. It's so clean and orderly, with so many gardens and beautiful architecture. Oxford is a wondrous place, and having just come from Africa, I was overwhelmed by the contrast. (Also, I can't get used to the extra four more hours or so of daylight. I keep expecting the sun to go down at 6:30 and for twilight to be brief. Oh, but how it lingers! Never will I take living so north of the equator for granted!)
the branches, illuminating the leaves...
any pictures of me and jooj. I know. way to go.

Back to School
Pardon the hiatus. I’ve been working on a second blog for an assignment (which coincides with my research) that has many photos from Ugandan schools. You can check it out here.
To finish off Uganda (so I can move on to England and Spain, finally, and then to the U.S.), here are are the rest of my favorite pictures from Uganda (schools!) that haven’t been posted on either blog. (Well, there are a few repeats I couldn't leave out...) Enjoy!
