Kulikayo: welcome back...to Oxford!

(from 6.20ish.08)

Oh, I've ganda Uganda and seven weeks later, I’m back in Oxford! And it feels strangely familiar, even though I’ve only ever spent three days here. Oxford has become a home away from home of sorts. And I’m lucky to get to see so much of it—Jooj has taken me around so many colleges, which are stunningly beautiful (I'm painfully jealous of those who get to live here... I wonder how one becomes a Rhodes scholar?). I can't think of any setting more opposite from Mukono, Uganda than Oxford, England, and I find myself stopping mid-step and groaning at its gorgeousness. It's so clean and orderly, with so many gardens and beautiful architecture. Oxford is a wondrous place, and having just come from Africa, I was overwhelmed by the contrast. (Also, I can't get used to the extra four more hours or so of daylight. I keep expecting the sun to go down at 6:30 and for twilight to be brief. Oh, but how it lingers! Never will I take living so north of the equator for granted!)

come and sit on your lovely benches, Oxford? Why yes, I think I may...
go for a stroll by a lovely pond? well, if I must....
...through a lovely garden path, evening sun streaming in through
the branches, illuminating the leaves...
I will go punting someday:
I was so obsessed with the scenery, I failed to take
any pictures of me and jooj. I know. way to go.

Um beautiful and seriously, what a contrast! You are an amazing photographer, by the way. I'm still a little surpirsed when it is still light out here at 8pm. I got so used to it getting dark at 7!
